Chris Bangle is an American designer who, after working for many years in the car business, changes perspective and addresses to other kind of projects. Among the many activities, he starts building benches, huge benches.
He does not assemble personally every object: the benches are financed and built by privates and associations which agree with the ideas of the Big Bench Community Project: take time, rest and enjoy the scenery, with dangling legs, like children.
Many benches are in the Langhe area (Piemonte), but the project went over the region's borders and reached Santa Maria in Stelle too. Our walk starts and finishes here.
The itinerary runs on a gravel road, winding and shady at the beginning, straight and sunny later on, until the red Big Bench. As in the intentions of the Big Bench Community Project, the whole tour is an immersion in the nearby nature, a slow time to discover the beautiful landscape of Valpantena valley, out of the crowded center of Verona.
We'll visit the workshop of Terre di Stelle, where wise hands work the clay, and won't go back before enjoying the scent of lavender of some local cultivation.
And there's another place to discover, an ancient and holy place: the Hypogeum of Santa Maria in Stelle. With its frescos and its secrets, its visit cannot be missed!
This is an easy proposal, about 3 hours long. The guided tour includes the van transfer from and to Verona.
