The tour starts off by the sea, develops in the inland, in the marvelous Apulian countryside with olive and almond trees, gardens and beautiful typical houses, white villages that witness a rich artistic culture, and finishes by the sea again.

We start cycling from Trani, featuring a wonderful cathedral facing the sea, then we visit the most spectacular castle built by Frederick II during the Holy Roman Empire – Castel del Monte – a UNESCO World Heritage Site built on the top of a hill.

We reach Murgia, a karst plateau that lays between Apulia and Basilicata, crossing an undulating territory covered by thousands of red poppies in bloom. Then, we arrive to the city built in the stone: Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Matera is the city of the “Sassi”, ancient houses dug in the chalky stone: most of them have been renewed and inhabited. We also visit the park of the ancient rupestrian churches, built into the stones, featuring beautiful frescos and partly underground.

After Matera we cycle in the countryside among the Trulli (typical and bizarre stone-made houses with a conical roof). They are sometimes grouped in village, as in the unique Alberobello: here we actually stay in a real trullo for the night. We ride on small countryside roads up to the village of Ostuni, “the white city” with a nice view over the sea, then we cross charming towns such as Cisternino and Locorotondo. We head again towards the sea, crossing hundred-year old olive groves through the Parco Naturale delle Dune Costiere, and finally we flank the coast, that alternates low cliffs and narrow sand bays: here our tour comes to an end, admiring the beautiful blue sea in front of us.
