Ravenna and the pinewoods

History, art and nature in the Park Delta del Po

Dates upon request

The city of Ravenna is the center of the tour, which develops along the southern and northern coast, where Delta del Po Park is. Biking north we will cross the pinewood of San Vitale and ferry across the Candiano channel, Ravenna’s harbor. We will than go along the lagoon of Pialassa della Baiona to Valli di Comacchio, after Casal Borsetti.
A beautiful road between Reno River and the vast basin of Valli di Comacchio will give us the feeling of being surrounded by the waters, as in a biblical vision. This humid area is populated by a lot of varieties of birds and along the path we will eventually be able to see the flying pink flamingos: a big community lives here.

In the southern area we will visit the basilica Sant’Apollinare in Classe and the homonymous pinewood. We will then reach the sea where the Bevano torrent flows. It is a beautifully preserved nature reserve. There we will find no beach umbrellas, nor tourist chaos. We will track the sandy coast to Dante beach. With the pinewood on the other side it is a unique scenery.

This tour is not only through beautiful natural landscapes (lagoons and pinewoods), but it crosses also astonishing architectural beauties: here history has left amazing art pieces. So often the modest outside look of buildings reveals true treasures inside.

The churches, adorned with wonderful mosaics, deserve their notoriety, and eight early Christian constructions of the city of Ravenna are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The golden and bright colors of the mosaics are an unforgettable memory.

This trip has already been tested and can be adapted to small or bigger groups. We propose  guided tours leaded by our guides who speak english, german, french, spanish and portuguese. We can provide this trip also without leaders as long as the group can follow the tracks using a gps since itineraries develop on broads that are not always easy to find.

On demand we can also provide other services as, for instance, a bus following the group or electric bikes and much more. Big groups are kindly invited to book in advance.
